EUROCARD SYSTEM
Eurocards, also known as E-cards, mount the grounded or isolated barriers on a card which is installed in a rack which is normally 19” in width.
This mounting system requires wiring to pins in the back of the rack instead of directly to the individual barriers.
Eurocards are used as signal conditioning units between field devices and control systems.
They plug into standard prewired racks or prefabricated ISES backplane systems.
The cards may be mounted or removed from a live circuit.
Advantages:
easy replacement of cards during operation
modular design and cabinet construction
good heat dissipation
Other considerations:
wiring layout required
cost slightly higher than DIN rail
Backplane mounting systems:
Backplane technology mounts the barrier modules on a printed circuit board which allows the changing of modules under hot operations. The backplanes contain receptacles which accept wiring harnesses back to the system making wiring easier than E-cards in 19” racks
